You can find peat moss at Walmart in the section near the potting soils and pots and such. They have the whole bagged, large moss inside. I'm not talking about the chopped up stuff that you mix into garden soil. That stuff is there, too, but if you look around Walmart, you will find the bagged moss that you are looking for.
If you don't see it in the gardening section, look in the section where they sell florist stuff(near all the fake flowers). They usually have some there, too, because people use it to decorate flower arrangements with.

soak it for maybe a week, and be careful what you buy, most moss at the garden centers is either painted green or sprayed with an anti fungal agent. peat will decompose in the tank, I'm not sure it's a great substrate by itself. Those new substrates made from clay seem to be the best at the moment.

If you're looking for a convenient way of doing it (so you don't have to put it under the gravel), its either Fluval or Eheim (the filter company) who makes a filter insert made out of peat moss. You can change it every couple months & it goes right in the stack of filtration media, no mess or fuss. You can go to any non-chain fishkeeping store & pick one up. The only thing is that you would need their brand of canister filter for it to be convenient...

The garden center or pet store has sheets. Also, why are you lowering your PH? Most fish can survive fine in ph ranging from 6.6 - 8.2 with no problem. It is better to have a steady PH than one that is changing all the time. That is what hurts the fish more.

Garden centers are your best bet unless you have one of the few filters that have cartridges available like mentioned above. Be sure you get pure peat moss though, no fertilizers or other additives!

Many of your local fish stores should carry it. It comes in small sheets that you can put in your filter. Sometimes you can also find this where ever pond supplies are found near you. Good Luck!

nearly any gardening center will have it. just make sure there are no additives in it that could be toxic to the fish.
