A big belly reminds me of rising bread dough that requires "punching" to get the gas out. There is something theraputic about punching dough and watching it deflate, maybe people think the big belly will feel and respond the same as the dough.

When I used to go to a uni in a different state, I had friends who would greet me by gently touching my stomach. Sometimes squeezing it. I thought that was very odd. I wasn't offended, though. I've always been thin, although at that time, I did have a very small belly. I always wondered, "What is s/he thinking?" whenever that happened. Hmm.... I do wonder.

big belly, reminds you of pillsbury doughboy, reminds you of how you stayed up all night eating their fatty food, and felt so sick the next morning which reminds you of the time you got food poisoning which reminds you of the time you got so drunk and that reminds you of all the stupid things you did when you were drunk which reminds you of how stupid you were when you were younger.
it's a psycological thing.
