I have another small problem right now. The bike was idoling low. It would shut down as soon as I stopped giving it a little gas. I turned up the idol speed and then the rpms were way too high. If the choke is open its worse. When I turn the idol speed back down I go back to the original problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ed

good chance of a vacuum leak, the carb mounting flanges/boots can crack and warp. the proper way to test this is with propane, a small propane torch (obviosly not lit) can be used by running propane over the areas were there would be a potential leak and you will hear a rpm change when you've found the leak

Tonuprocker....I love that idea of using a propane torch to check for leaks!
If you find no air leaks, I would synchronize the carbs. Carbs out of sync can drive you nuts trying to figure idle problems.
Don't forget to perform an "idle drop" test to get the mixture screws properly adjusted.

The mechanical spark advance unit is worn out. As soon as it rev's up a little the spark advances and makes it rev up even more. A very common problem for bikes of this vintage.

Idol is a TV show. Idle is what a bike does when you are sitting at a stop light!

Maybe you should as Senjaya?
