pregnancy before conception. Sad!

2007-05-03 05:48:49 · 32 answers · asked by Anonymous in Pregnancy & Parenting Pregnancy

I understand some of the more complicated questions, but the ones like:
I have more mucus, is that OK?
and
There's a LINE on my belly is that OK?
and
I'm pregnant. Will sex hurt the baby?
are things that are covered in Sex Ed. in 6th grade.

When I was pregnant, I bought books by Doctors and Nurses that had trustworthy creditials. If I was unsure about that information, I contacted my doctor. Honestly, asking strangers questions that involve my child's health, never crossed my mind. Some of the questions asked here are great, but when it comes to the health of a child, the HIGHEST precautions should be taken.

What makes the asker think these folks HAVE been through this? They could be lying. I'm back to the trustworth info...

If a person were illiterate, how would they be able to post a question?

I love to read, so I bought every pregnancy book I could find with my first pregnancy and read them cover to cover. I just had our second son 2 weeks ago and again, while pregnant I dug the books out and read them cover to cover as a refresher since there was 4 years between the two. I think many women should read more, and be on the computer less. Most of the questions I see on here are answered in "What to Expect when Your Expecting"....the website is good too. I just wish everybody wanted to be as informed as I like to be. Maybe there would be less abortions, and/or teen pregnancies.

I did the same thing as you and started looking up all the information I could but occassionally I'd run across something that I just wanted someone else's opinion on. Not that that I didn't know what was supposed to happen or what was going on, I just wanted another person to bounce things off of. Pregnancy can be daunting even when it's planned and some women just need a little more reassurance. There are some things like "will having sex hurt my baby" that I find ridiculous but others I understand they just need a little reassurance.

You can read it all day long in a trustworthy book, but really, isn't it more reassuring to hear it from someone who's actually EXPERIENCED it?

Perhaps we've read it in a book, on the web (which is an entire PLETHORA of contradicting information, even on the medical site), or heard it from a teacher, but when you've got something disturbing happening to YOUR body, you'd much rather have the comfort and knowledge from someone who's been there.

Also, a lot of the more complicated things you DON'T learn until you're pregnant. Really, what reason do you have to learn about more discharge, cures for morning sickness, aching ribs, or some of the other discomforts of pregnancy before your pregnant.

What WE learned in school was sperm + egg = baby. We learned how one grew. We did NOT, however, learn much about what was going to happen to OUR bodies (besides our boobs leaking and our bellies growing) until we wound up pregnant.

Okay, so, the "Am I pregnant" questions are a bit annoying, but questions about mucous, exhaustion, nausea, and what can or cannot hurt your baby (which is pretty much everything, nowadays) are perfectly reasonable, I feel.

YOU may know those things, but not everyone does.

I have done extensive reading on pregnancy, books and on the internet. This is also my 2nd child. Some things come up that are not mentioned in detail in sources of reading. It also helps when I am having a problem or concern with my pregnancy to talk about it with other pregnant women and to know if any others have experienced what I may be going through at the time.

you can read many book as you like, most of these book are from pregnant or women that have been pregnant before, or sometimes by doctors who study pregnant women and get all there information from them, So when another pregnant women is asking another for advice, there doing the same things that doctors and publishers of pregnancy books are doing getting there information from pregnant women, that been through it. You can only understand how someone feel or what there going through unless you walked in there shoes. i have read many pregnancy books, but my best advice have been from other mothers, I give them all a gold star!!!!!

I don't think it's much of them not knowing...if u'r the type of person who was taught, or learned these kinds of things then sure they wouldn't know.

What really bothers me are the "Younger" girls who think they know everything they think they know...but they are no where close to knowing what they need to know. These are the young girls who are involved with CAS and are forced to take parenting classes and they blame CAS and everyone else for their faults. I'm a 34 year old woman with a 6 yr old and twins on the way, who has NEVER been involved with our local agency and know that parenting is common sense...treat u'r child(ren) they way u want to be treated and not being selfish. Children are as much human as we are....I think that if those young girls were taught properly they would be better parents; mind u I do commend the ones who really try and make it!!!!

I agree, some of the questions really are common knowledge or the sort of thing you were taught in primary school! But at least they ask instead of carrying on completely ignorant to whatever it is they dont know - which some people do do and end up in a right mess or really ill in some cases!

What gets me is the cacophony of bad advice, like telling them it's fine to drink a little. A LOT of people here give medical advice without keeping up with current knowledge, even to the point of thumbing down answers citing more recent research. It's insane.

I'd never thought of it before, but you are right. That person answering about pregnancy or women's health questions could be some nasty man sitting in his underwear answering questions while he laughs his head off at us asking the questions and giving him the thumbs up sign.

Unfortunately it's not only them but males tend to be just as ignorant about these aspects too.No wonder so many Early unplanned Pregnancies and sexually Transmitted diseases still occure in this enlightened age. Hmmmmm!
To all of those concerned. Good Luck I do hope you find the answers you are looking for.
