I plan to research , develop and finance an intergalactic starship on the internet - is this possible given that all the best brains, enterpreneurs, draftsmen, engineers and management groups will all have access to the same information and each contribution will move the project forward by decades. Imagine what you can do with a million man hours and 100 million contributors !! Whats your opinion?

To get this plan into the air, so to speak, not only would you need draughtsmen, engineers, electrictians, welders, joiners, mangement, doctors and countless support staff and believe me this list is nowhere near complete or inclusive! You would need physical resourses that are quite probably beyond the national debt, not to mention propulsion systems that are way beyod what we have available at this present time.
All-in-all I think you better scrap this and think of something a bit less ambitious.

It took WAY more than a million man hours to send Apollo to the Moon. And of course the cost was $25 Billion, which adjusted for inflation would be $130 Billion today.
And I do not believe you will get anywhere near 100 million contributors. And many of your contributors will be crazy people who really do not have anything of value to contribute. They will tell you to ask the aliens secretly living in area 51 or whatever.
