My boyfriend and I are looking for hotels in Syntagma square. We only need a hotel for about 5 hours until we catch a flight. We were told that it's easy to go from there to the airport for an early AM flight so that's why we want to stay there.

Can anyone suggest a clean & safe budget hotel near there? We are looking to spend about $60.00-$80.00 USD to a maximum of $100 USD.

Thanks!

Grande Bretagne, King George, and Plaza are 5 stars hotels, I very much doubt that you can have a reasonable price there - I would not even bother to check their prices.
Electra and Electra Palace could be somewhere around 100 euros (depending always on the season), but still above your budget. In my opinion, you can also look around other locations near to a metro station, because anyway Syntagma is a "hub" so you can easily reach it in 5-10 minutes from many other locations around. And anyway, the line to the airport starts at Monastiraki station - this area could be a lot cheaper (but not so nice in the night). For you information, it takes 40 minutes from Syntagma to the airport and trains run at around 10 to x hour and 20 after.

In the complex of the airport there is a 5*hotel: Sofitel. But if you wish to see Syntagma square, which is about 45' (maybe more) from the airport, and if you are willing to spend about 80 USD I suggest the Great Britagne (one of the best in Athens),Plaza and St.George.Near there is also the Athens Hilton. Google at the hotel names and have fun in Athens..

there are a lot of hotels but on the cheap and clean you may want to try the attalos just down from the square it is a very nice hotel clean, and about 99 a night. it was remodeled in 2004 and i stay every year when i am between flights. also the sofitel (at the airport) is also a fabulous hotel but very expensive but i will say it is worth it . with down beds and very quiet. but the food is just OK not great and service OK. hope you have fun ... it is a fun place to go and lots to look at

I stayed at Arethusa, it was good, near everything. Ask for a room looking out to the street... they do have rooms looking at the wall of the building next to it, and if you don't smoke make sure they give you a room that doesn't smell like old tabacco!.

Behind the hotel there is a pedestrian street with lots of stores.

You can stay also to other hotels such as holiday inn even if they are not in Syntagma. But avoid absolutely the hotles in Omonia square, the district is very dangerous in the night...
All these places are very well communicated with bus, and metro services..
