If you buy Rid-X and flush 1/2 of the box down the toilet every month you should never have to pump it out.Ive been using this for 25 yrs and have never pumped mine out.I never had a back up or any other problems in all that time.Rid-X is a bacteria, like yeast and eats all the sludge so your septic never gets full.Hope this helps

You need to find out your perc. Your county health department should have that information, unless you are in an old house.
Anyway, a perc will be, say, 4 bedroom. The way they figure it, there can be 2 people per bedroom, so a system on a four bedroom perc handles the typical usage of 8 people. Provided you are not exceeding your perc, you should only need to pump every 5 years.
Some say that a properly functioning septic system will never need to be pumped, but hey, why test it?

For a family of 3 - no teenagers, no garbage disposal, no excess water usage, with a 1500 gallon tank - every 5-6 years. If you have any of those exceptions then you'll need to pump it out sooner, on average every 3-5 years.
Check out the sources, they have some very good info.
Folks who say they never pump their tank are just like those folks who never change the oil in their automobile. You can get away with it for a while, but eventually you'll need a new one.

Depends on how you treat it. If you are continually pouring grease/oil and chemical cleaners (especially bleach type) down your drains, you will probably need it done once a year. These things kill the bacteria that "eat" the organic solids in the tank. By watching what you put into the tank, you can get by with every five years or so. Old saying (even though not totally true) is "if it didn't go through you, it shouldn't go through the septic".

We just had this done last week and I asked the guy the same question. Our tank is 1000 g. and he said every 3-5 years and we are a family of 6.

5 years or so, but this depends on how much you let go down the sink, if you flush paper towels, a septic tank no-no. Also, if you have a low lying area, and get lots of water build-up, sooner.
If you have smells/unseasonal water build-up, immediately!!
Also, keep any deeply rooted plants trimmed and away from the area.
