The "median" is the number in the middle of the sample arranged in order by value. If the number in the sample is odd, then the median is the number in the middle of the list. If the number in the sample is even (so there is no "middle" value), the median is the average of the two middle numbers.
Ordering the sample (2, 6, 3, 8, 5, 4, 2,)
we get 2,2,3,4,5,6,8. Since the number in the sample is odd (there are 7 numbers in the sample) there is a "middle number" 4.

4 is the median. Median is the central number in an arranged series. So in cases like this, you have an odd number coz there are 7 numbers so you can immediately get the median which is the number in the center. But you must first sequence the number in ascending order. So its 2,2,3,4,5,6,8 and thus you will get the median which is 4 coz it is the number in the center of all. In case you will have 8 numbers you must add the two numbers in the center and divide it by 2.

Median, by definition, is that data point value that puts 1/2 the data points above it and 1/2 the data points below it according to their values. Median literally means middle; you are looking for the one data point in the middle of all the data.
You have seven data points. So you need to find the datum value that puts three data points above its value and three below it. In other words, you are looking for the data point in the middle of those seven given data points. The best way to see where that point is is to rank order your data.
Thus, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8; and the median jumps right out at you. It's the one in the middle, which is what median means.

Line up the numbers in order from least to greatest (i.e.2,2,3,4,5,6,8) since we have an odd number set we choose the number in the center/middle. In this example the number is 4.
If the set had been an even number we would have taken the two center/middle numbers and found the mean (i.e. take the two numbers and add them then divide by 2).
