No paint is safe for this job!!! The manufacturers use baked on enamel.

firstly take a wire brush to it and get rid of all the rust. Then wash down with hot soapy water. After it is thoroughly dry it should be rust free so then give it a good soaking of cooking oil to finish the job.Should come up like new.Dont reccomend painting it with anything as it could poison you!If all that fails see if the manafacturers sell replacement plates and racks and keep it clean next time.Good luck.

No paint but once the rusty rack is red hot there is no danger from it as any nasties will be burnt away.

Just clean the rack up and use the bbq often, let the carbon and oils build up on it and it should not rust again.
Or you can just buy a new rack.

Dave p is right the best thing you can do is light it and scrub the rust with food oil and wash then at the end of the year when you have finished with it cover in oil to help stop the rust

Don't use any paint! please just get a wire brush and clean the trivet wire racks that way. Painting will not word due to the high temperatures involved while cooking .
