Ummm.. if your device failed (in some way) what's the chance that the Hospital would be sued ?

This question more than any other will govern how successful your device will be ..

NB> Don't tell ANYONE the details of your invention = if you do so, it counts as 'publishing' and then you can't patent it !

You patent it.

However, you don't stop with just one invention because chances are the world won't think its so awsome, so keep inventing and patenting until something takes off for you.
