When I say project, I don't mean like experiment. I mean the Projects. The area in which some people live that is very poor and there is a lot of drugs and violence. They call it the projects. Is there another word for it that is more defined, meaning the actual word for this type of area?

Low income housing. They called them projects because they were low income housing projects during the sixties when racial issues were really hot....it got shortened to projects.

The most common is ghetto. I also hear slums, PJ's, low rent districts, and wrong side of the tracks.
