A recent study proved that eating nuts is actually very good to lose weight even though it has many calories. The high protein they contain is not only known to replace meat but it seems that it also reduces your appetite.

You're absolutely right Itay. I also had one year of university in nutrition but I'm always trying to find new ideas.

I've never been on a diet, but I've taken several human physiology course and have a basic understanding of nutrition. There are basically three things 'in' food that make you gain weight:

-calories- the basic energy currency in food
-carbohydrates/simple sugars
-fats

In general, depending on your metabolic rate and how much physical activity you do, the energy that you consume in food is used up by the body. If you take in more energy than you consume (i.e., you eat food with too many calories and so on), then this excess energy is eventually converted to fat. Consumption of excess carbohydrates (especially simple sugars- such as those found in cookies, ice cream, white bread, etc), which the body cannot fully convert into useable forms of energy, leads to those unused sugars eventually being stored as fats in the body.

So, in conclusion:
-eat foods that are high(er) in calories, fats and carbs earlier in the day so that your body has time to metabolize them before you go to sleep
-excercise- especially try to build some muscle since muscle will help you burn calories/fat at a greater rate
-eat sensible portions
-limit consumption of saturated and trans fats and bad carbs (e.g., baguettes, white bread, etc)
-eat light and healthy suppers

Intuitively, I can't see how dieting works. Dieting is deprivation. Deprivation is uncomfortable and, to some extent, unnatural. Eating sensibely just involves eating junk food and other unhealthy food less often, exercising more, and eating high carb/high calorie/high fat foods earlier in the day.

Stop eating ! That's not a diet , that's starvation !

No, No.....Change eating habits & exercise more .
Eat wholesome , nutritious food & keep away from the junk food.
Eat less but have snacks spread out through the day ...nuts , dried fruit , fresh fruit etc .

Exercise regularly ....even something as gentle as frequent power walks ...

If you simply stop eating , sure you will lose weight but when you resume eating , if you don't change your attitude to food it doesn't take long to be back to where you started .

A change of eating habits can last a lifetime!

I don;t look at it as stopping eating anything. I look at it as eating healthy foods I love. So I stock up on things like yogurt and fruits and veggies. I almost never but junk food on the principle that if it isn't in the house I won't eat it nor will it be sitting there making me feel deprived.

I didn't really stop eating anything. I just eat less of everything. that way I don't feel deprived or have binges on a forbidden food. losing weight is a lot about portion control.
