We recently switched to a soy formula 10 days ago. His stools are loose and yellow, and he seems to be going 2-3 times a day. I don't know if this is ok. I am on WIC, and they only give you two choices of formula. The baby will be sleeping one moment, and scream in pain the next. I have tried Mylicon, and Gripe water, which seam to help for a little bit. I have tried all moving his legs and massaing him. I don't know how else to help him.

You have to talk to your doctor about it. If the doctor orders baby a different kind of formula wic will get it for you.

If Mylicon isn't working, you might need to go see the doctor. Try giving him some apple juice. Also, consider laying him on his stomach when the pains happen (when he is awake). You might also lay him across your knees to help put pressure on his belly. Are you burping him good? Most people only pat the baby gently to burp it, you can pat a little harder and try to get a couple of good burps out of him.

Is he also constipated? If the apple juice doesn't help (or his stool is hard) buy some glycerin suppositories. You can get them at the drug store. Just snip the very tip (about a half of a centimeter or so) off the end and use that - not the whole thing.

Good luck! :)

I breastfed and still had a gas problem with my son despite tons of dietary changes for me. Things that helped somewhat was putting him in his bouncer, if you don't have one that might help. You could post an ad on freecycle (look in your county/area online) its where you can give and receive things free. I also would work his legs instead of just pushing his knees towards his belly, I would work them like he was riding a bike - then push them up. I literally could hear the gas releasing. Also you can try massaging his belly. Do it in a circular motion rub starting just below his belly button in a round motion over his tummy up to a couple inches below his rib cage. That is where his digestive tract is and you can help him release gas that way too. We battled gas his whole first 9 months. Continue to work on the formula to make sure it isn't that with his doc. I used to have to do these all night long - literally 6 hours a night for his first 4-5 months. Sounds like you might be trying this. You may find that you have to go outside of wic to get his formula, and if thats what it takes I think its worth it rather than watching your baby suffer. I feel for you and hope something here helps.

It sounds like your baby might be Colic. I also have a 2 month old son who will scream for about an hr. and hold his legs up to his belly as if he has gas pains. I had him at the doctor the other day and they said that if you lay him on the dryer, standing by him of course, and have it running the warmth and smooth shaking will make the baby feel better, which it worked for him...it calmed him down and about 10 mins later he feel asleep.

burp him during every feeding after an ounce of milk. stop feeding and burp him and also talk to the doctor. your doctor can write a note to the wic people for a formula they dont normally offer sounds like the soy isnt working for him'

call the childs doctor right now before his stomach is damaged permanently

I always took my son's legs and, while he was laying on his back, gently pushed his knees towards his stomach. That helps sometimes. Try putting him on your lap facing down with his tummy on your leg. support his upper body w/ your hand and make sure he doesn't slip off. Pat him on the back and bounce your legs gently. If this doesn't help, go to his pediatrician. His doctor will be able to prescribe something to help with gas or suggest an alternative to what you're feeding him now. Good luck!

if you believe in alternative medicine,i would suggest you to warm your baby's abdomen.just put your hand on the hot pack and lightly press on to his tummy.you can either apply gingelly(an oil available in pharmacies) and some grinded black pepper on his tummy and then gently warm the tummy. he will start to pass out the gas and with poo as well.do it twice daily and you can see how peacefully he sleeps.

Take him to the Dr. The Dr. will either give you something for him.... he may have colic. or write out something for you to give the health department so they can give you the RIGHT formula for him to be taking. They have to give you what the Dr. says he needs.

They have infant gas medicine OTC, but you should see your Doctor to figure out why he's in so much pain.
