I had someone accidentally use roundup on all my weeds on my lawn, and it killed half of my lawn. Do I have any chance of bringing the lawn back or am I totally hosed. I've thought about re-seeding, is there any point?

Sorry to hear of your loss. Frankly, they should have killed all the lawn. At this point you might be better off killing it all off than trying to retrieve the half. And yes you were hosed and I would use the person to do what it is to redo the turf.
What is fortunate for you is that Round-Up (glyphosphate) has a short life in soils and plants. If the idiot used the Quick-Kill solution you may be even more lucky as this can sometimes not kill the roots. Have the Idiot come back and finish the job. Do it with the understanding that you want you monies paid back and the additional application be for free,
Rent a core aeration machine two weeks after the last application. Core aeration allows for the introduction of water, air, and minerals to the soil. It is also unsightly as plugs are left on the lawn. Rake them away using a heavy rake (not a regular lawn rake). Run the machine e-w, n-s, then at random passes two more times.
This is a great opportunity for you to add to your soil. Use a spreader (drop or cyclone) and spread granular gypsum at a rate recommended for the spreader at 3lbs/1,000 sq ft. This will provide drainage and is really cheap. Spread a granular Lime or Bone Meal at the manufact. rate. Buy a sprinkler that meets your property (two or more if needed) and water this mix in .
Let it sit for a week to recover. Go to a local Landscape Supply. I do not mean a Lowes, Home Depo, etc. Find a store that specializes in meeting the chemical and seed needs of local Landscape companies! These would be your best supply of high-end quality gypsum and lime as well. Get a spreader (cyclone if possible) and purchase both a 10-20-10 with minerals granular fert. and a bag of Certified Seed (Blue Lable). Use the fert at the medium manuf. setting and the seed at the Max.
Reseed over the dead grass and aeration holes. You can fert before or after. You may want to rake the lawn with a normal lawn rake before you either seed or fert to remove any debris that would hamper soil contact. Have the Round-Up person do it!
Set your sprinklers to water every other day. You want to enrich and not drown the seeds. Set it for the early to mid morning to prevent rot. Fetilize with a 10-10-10 and minerals granular (again cheap and at the Landscape place) in six weeks time. ReSet the sprinklers to allow for one inch of water per week, including rainfall. Put down the fert and topseed again in mid to late september. I would use the fert again after Thanksgiving to give the turf a jump start in the spring.
There is no accident with Round-Up. You were hosed with the four inch Fire Dept sized. Do your friend a favor and let him know what he has done. There is no doubt in my mind that others have suffered the same. Urge him to restrict his landscape to what he knows until he can gain the education needed to apply a chemical. In all fifty states you need to have a minimum of an applicator license to professionally apply any agent.
He tried, he failed! Lesson found on both sides. Have him do the labor! Good Luck.

Hosed. Go ahead and reseed. Roundup is deactivated by the soil. Farmers who used dirty irrigation water to mix Roundup found the chemical was deactivated before it even left the sprayer.
