My 15 hp Mairiner has ran like a champ for several years. The other day when getting ready to fish the pull start cord would not budge one inch. I checked the engine to see if it is seized but it is not. Any ideas on what may be wrong or how to fix this problem?

Take the cover off of the motor and remove pull cord assembly. Flip it over and inside will be a pulley that the pull cord is wrapped around. Chances are that the pull cord just slipped off the pulley and has jammed up. There is also a rewind spring that could have broke off and jammed in there as well as a small plastic gear which the rewind Spring uses for tension. One of teeth could have sheered off and jammed too. There is not much to it. It is definitely a DIY job and should be fairly simple and straight foreward.

think of approximately it, that motor is old. back whilst it became new, it had extra skill. That 40 hp is comparable to to days 25hp. you may constantly substitute the prop to a decrease pitch and get extra pulling skill. basically verify the rpm does not pass previous 5000. The motor being in reliable shape could pull a tube, even a skier on 2 skies with some journey. inspite of the undeniable fact that it would be no velocity demon. possibly 17-25mph.

Inspect the water pump
In some cases, when an engine hasn't been used on a regular basis, the impeller in the water pump will bond to the aluminium housing, especially if has been used in sea water.

Try neutral, your motor is equipped with "start in gear protection".

A pawl will engage the flywheel to prevent it from rotating unless the gearshift is in neutral.

This is safety measure.

If it is in neutral, inspect the "start in gear protection" mechanism.
