Where i come from the barns are major attractions some for tourists and some just to go and see on a sunday drive....all old barns have great character, whether they are red or white and if 'walls could talk' the stories they could tell, my my my some old barns that have been torn down and are being in the process of being torn down are actually valuable....some of the aged plank wood sells for $12.00 a foot...go figure. I prefer red.....LOL

Down in the Dutch country near where I live, there are stone barns that are lovely. We just have generic red ones and ugly pole barns.

Old red ones most of the time. White ones are pretty in fall when there is so much more color on the trees. They really stand out!

I like the old wooden ones that were never painted and being held up by a couple of cinder blocks in the corners but yet somehow the wind hasn't blown them away yet. Probably because of all the holes.
