Is female circumcision ever practiced in the United States? I didn't think it was, but I saw something that implied that it is. Just wondering, I guess.

Yes it is practiced in the US although it is illegal. What I find even more appalling is the fact that women are willing to go and pay to have plastic surgery done on their genitalia to make it more appealing to their partners. They are having labioplasty, vaginal tightening and rehymenization. If they think that this can be done without damaging the nerve tissues to this area then they are sadly mistaken.

As I understand it none of the three main varieties of "Female Genital Mutilation" i.e., Female Circumcision ("Clitoridectomy" or "Hoodectomy', "Excision", or the most severe of all, "Infibulation" A.K.A. "Pharoac Circumcision") are allowed to be performed in The U.S.of A., Australia, Canada, or The U.K.

Unfortunately yes it is. It is practiced by people of certain religions that move here and bring their twisted beliefs with them. There are no licensed professional medical doctors that perform the procedure, so it is done within their own community.

That has got to be the most disgusting, vile procedure and I cannot imagine how people can put their daughters through it. It comes from a very warped belief system that women are not allowed to be sexually active or experience sexual pleasure and whenever I think about it, it makes my skin crawl.

It is not legal in the US. I can't find the story right now, but someone was arrested a few years ago in the US for performing female circumcision. I want to say it was a doctor that did it on an immigrant girl...

Only illegally. I think that Congress passed a law against it in 1996 (not sure if this is exactly when tho). There is no way that we could allow this human rights violation to exist even in the "defense" that it is a cultural practice, but I think that some people still do it illegally.

It is not legal in the United States.
The laws on genital mutilation in the United States are very skewed.
They prohinit female genital mutilation while male genital mutilation is rampant.
The primary reason on this seems to be that the majority of Americans are wrongly educated on the ideas behind male genital mutilation.
The following question that was asked on Yahoo! Answers confirms this:

The majority of Americans seem to theink that the male prepuce has no function.
