I dress how I want to, and I find that your average Emo / goth (particularly goths) will really get up in your face about it. Granted, there's plenty of d1ck heads who will give somebody goth'd up grief because of how they dress, but I've had enough of having to avoid clubs and bars playing my preferred type of music because of the constant harassmant I get for not being dressed properly. The reason it *really* grates is because the abuse is *always* followed up with "Why can't you be an individual, like me?". How does that make sense? I am an individual, that's why I chose what I wore based purely on it was what I wanted to wear. I've had enough of being cornered in the gents and questioned why I was in that certain club, wearing a pair of jeans, a black shirt and my doc's.

Sorry, rant over. I'm actually quite a laid back guy, honest. And of course I don't mean to tar all goths / emo's with the same brush, just the vocal majority.

You know what, you are right. Everyone is a follower for the most part. Don't let it bother you. People who try to rebel end up in cliques that follow that particular style. Jocks, emos, etc. - they are all the same.... kids just trying to get by in life and have friends and some fun along the way. Noone wants to be left out or be alone.

Be yourself - whatever you deem that to be. Enjoy every day and the connections you make along the way. That's what really counts, NOT the clothes you wear.

: )

Yes, that's exactly right. The way I look at it is, I don't CARE what a person is. I quit caring a long time ago. They can be a prep, or a goth, or emo, or gangsta, or hippie, or grunge, or WHATEVER, just as long as they're not pretending to be something they're not, and as long as they're open-minded.

This, from someone who used to look like your typical hippie/rocker, but now dresses like the average prep. I get judged all the time by all the goth people, who seem to think I look down on them. I probably listen to the same kind of music they do, lol, I just got tired of getting hassled by cops everywhere I went!

I think, Goths make it a point to dress a certain way to be noticed. Dressing "normal" is a way of following it is just ordinary, or what is being sold at any store, and has its use. To dress in all black and purposely rip holes in close is sorta of following a look. Just my opinion hopes this helps.

I've never heard that. People are going to make fun of anyone that is even slightly different from themselves. I agree with the "normal" people being followers in the same sense.
They all shop at the Gap and Banana (or whatever preppy trendy stores) and have to have the Coach purse, its silly.
...but you have to admit, these emo questions on here are pretty funny sometimes!

i think ur totally right. everyone is a follower no matter who you are. and if goth and emos did start dressing and acting normal, then they would be followers and they would be trying to be someone that their not. i think poeple who supposedly "hate" goths and emos should just shut up and get a life.

I am assuming that goths and emos have something to follow. What do you think "normal" people follow? I follow my local football team but it is hardly a lifestyle statement.

Wots an Emo? Sounds like something from Sesame Street!

People who think it's possible to be totally original are deluded. People that TRY to be strange, different, or weird are boring. They're just image-conscious. They're trying to appear to be strange, which is much different from actually being strange. Some people actually ARE strange, in good ways and bad ways, but they're just being themselves. Sometimes the strangest, most interesting individuals are the ones who look "normal." The weirdest people often don't want to stand out too much in their appearance. We're social creatures, meaning we take cues from our fellow humans. Most people go through a period of rebellion; they don't want to admit that they're influenced by others' opinions so they try to "be weird."
