Either is fine. If you write alot, you just need a good word processing program. Both PCs and Macs have that. Less people know how to fix Macs, so if your computer doesn't work, you will need to find a Mac person to fix it.

For your uses, you probably won't be concerned with games or the huge number of computer peripherals avaiable on the PC.
Therefore, if you can afford it, get the MAC. The operating system is better than Windows, but unfortunately, Apple makes you buy an expensive computer in order to get the operating system.

Macs are good, but probably more than you need. You need a big, clear screen if you're going to spend a long time looking at it.
Any relatively new PC should suit your needs.

If you're just writing then, yes, you probably don't need a lot of power. (You might consider whether you're going to embed some graphics into your writing...do you want a powerful graphics handler, such as Photoshop? If so, THEN you need a lot of power!)
If not a lot of power, then a Mac I would guess is probably your answer - simple intuitive intuitive interface, smallish models available, powerful enough for your writing needs.

Buy a MAC, they might be a little more expensive and it might take a little bit to become familiar with it, but it will be worth it.

Maggie, you might also want to play games. Oh yea, you might.
Mac doesn’t play the latest games, especially the more intense 3D games! And that is because MACs don’t support such powerful GPU ( Graphic card)
Installing Windows Vista or XP on a Mac WON’T eligible you to play the most advanced games available out there, and that is because, once again, Macs don’t support the most advanced GPU. It cannot get any simpler than that. Conversely, Macs won’t run windows smoothly as Windows PCs would run windows, and that is because Microsoft never created its OS to run better on Steve’s computers. It cannot get any simpler than that.
The significant reason Macs are not vulnerable to viruses is because Macs only have 5% of the computer marketing share, while PCs have 95%. Why would someone waste their time to infect only 5% of Mac users whereas they could use that valuable time infecting 95% of Windows Pcs? * The more people you infect, the richer you become.
If Macs someday become as popular as Windows, their chances of being infected with numerous viruses will also become popular. Don’t listen to anyone who says Mac isn’t vulnerable to virsues. In fact, there are viruses for Macs!!!
The reasons Windows PCs don’t support Mac OSX is because Windows users DON’T NEED MAC OSX. Suspiciously, Macs can’t survive on their own, so they asked Microsoft for permission to use Windows on Macs to keep their business running!!! Mac could have been used if they didn’t get approved by Microsoft to use windows OS. It cannot get any simpler than that.
About Editing: Macs are great on editing, but Macs don’t do editing better than PCs. In fact, none wins in this competition.
There is nothing a Mac can do that a PC cannot do, while they’re various things Pcs can do that a Mac cannot do. Let me authenticate my argument to you.
The MacBook doesn’t have a storage slot for it. Unlike most PC laptops, the MacBook Pro lacks a built-in media reader for flash memory cards, and there's no S-Video output or built-in modem--both of which Pcs have.
I LOVE to connect my TV to my notebook. I have a 32' flat screen TV in my bedroom that I hook up to my Dell computer. With a Mac, as previously mentioned, I won’t be able to connect a Mac to my TV because it doesn’t support S-Video output. On the Macbook, You won't find a media card reader, however, which has become a common feature on many windows laptops. Unlike the MacBook Pro, there's no ExpressCard slot for adding components later. Sure you will get all this feature from Windows PCs
Software deficiency. They’re not much software available for Macs. That’s why companies who make games don’t make much games for Macs, especially due to Mac’s poor GPU.
Customer convenience is Mac doesn’t offer. However, Mac doesn’t allow customers to build their notebook the way they want it. It’s like you go in to a restaurant and the waitress choose the food for you. You have to eat what you get. The same is with Mac, you have to buy what they offer, already packed in the box and ready to ship to you.
PCs allow customers to choose what they want. How wonderful.
Mac users say Mac supports better graphic card than windows Pcs, which proves how unenlightened they’re. . How can Mac supports the MOST advanced graphic card when they’re not any good on gaming? PCs support the MOST powerful graphic card and CPU because games require the MOST advanced Graphic card. Ask the Mac users how many GPU your computer supports and see what they tell you... If you ask me, they’re a million available for PCs.
You can’t upgrade a Mac. Some say Macs don’t need to be upgraded because their old system will always support their latest OS, and that is because Mac barely crawl towards improvement, so it makes no sense for Macs to upgrade. Unlike Mac, Windows keep coming up with new Ideas, so upgrade is highly recommended.
Only software made by Apple can be used on a Mac. Imagine that. What is my point? Good question, and I am happy to make my point to you.
Conversely, when you purchase Music video from Itunes, you can’t burn them to discs or use other programs to play the Music files other than Apple’s specific software. Microsoft Windows media player allows users to do whatever they wish to do with their stuffs... I simply purchased a Music video off Windows Media Player and burn it to a disc with ease. Do you still need Mac to have control over what you purchase with your money? Once you go Mac, you never come back, and that is why I don’t want to go there!
About Crashing. Macs don’t crash as often as windows, and that is because, once again, they’re more viruses written for Windows due to its extreme popularity.... And ONLY uneducated Windows users get infected with Viruses. In plain explanation, Windows is not what is vulnerable to viruses, it’s the uneducated Windows users who are vulnerable to viruses. It has been 6 years since I last caught a virus, and that was because I uneducatedly, at a very young age, downloaded a harmful software off the Internet that was offered to me for FREE.
You have a great day now.
