Yeah, my S6+ is the same way...and it annoys me to no end. Why put the peg on the bottom, and not one on the neck?
First, you can use the straps with the string to tie it to the guitar neck, but you will run into serious problems as you lean/put weight on it. It eventually bows/warps the neck. So, using that as a solution is out.
Yes, you could drill it yourself...but I'd recommend against it. Some guitars are chambered in the back in that area, and if you drill into it, you can destroy/alter the sound of the guitar. Also, if you mess up the drilling, you could split the wood.
My advice is to take it to a luthier (fancy talk for guitar repair shop) and have a pro tap the peg. This, as with setting the rod in the neck, is best left to someone in the know.

Attaching a strap to an acoustic guitar gives two possibilities.
1) with a length of string, cord, bootlace or whatever, tie the strap round the neck just above the nut. Thread it under the strings. This will give the sort of "Country" look - "Walk the Line."
2) using a slow drill, make a small hole in the heel of the neck (where it joins the body). Placing is up to you, but either so it projects at right angles to the neck, or the side of the heel so it points at the ground. Screw in and best of luck!

Some acoustic guitars only have the bottom button, and you need to either install a knob on the top of the body or buy an acoustic strap that ties to the top of the neck without a button.

If your guitar doesn't have two "pegs" (one at the bottom of the body and one nearer to your bellybutton on the body) then you use the string (provided with the strap usually) and attach it to the neck near the stock.

you'll have to buy another button and attatch it where you see fit. some attatch it to the upper left rounded top portion (left when facing the guitar). others use an additional cord to loop it around the headstock. me personally i add the button to the space on the back horn of the neck where it meets the body. if there is space there, thats where i would attach it.

It sounds like you need a strap with a lace-up on the other end so you can tie it around the neck by the nut.
