I'm not exactly a lazy person, but I do hate early mornings, and the 9-5 existence drives me mad.
What jobs are there that earn a reasonably decent living (not millions, just enough to live off OK), are fairly low-stress, don't involve heavy manual labour or being yelled at by the general public and most importantly allow you to have a bit of a lie in?
Or is this just a fantasy....?

I already work for local government! You definetly do have to be in by 9am - earlier sometimes in fact!

hey fuschia.. be like me - I'm a research fellow... or any kind of research post in a uni - like being a glorified student - all the perks, but a salary attached - not the best salary in the world but the lifestyle more than compensates! i work from home on the days i dont want to go in, and on the days i do go in there;s no set time. as long as u get your done thats all that matters. i wouldnt exactly say its stress-free, but the perks certainly outweigh the negatives. working from home for me means, my home, my dads (500 miles away) or my sisters (70 miles away). keeping my own hours means that i can work whenever i want to. you do have to be really disciplned in ensuring it gets done. but i work better in spurts rather than plodding along, so i'll do some intense work and then laze about for a few days. lecturing is hard work (usually part of the job) but not unmanageable. the odd international conf is a bonus too!
i would definitely not give up this career. couple of degrees and a phd and you're sorted! take it on!

The night shift it is then or you could work from home? Work from home would be the best option then you could please yourself what time you got up as if you do the night shift you are going to have to see every hour of that early morning so you are no better off really. Most jobs these days have something we dont like about them and there are very few if any, that are well paid yet have no stress involved!!!
come on wake up and stop dreaming, you should realise you are really asking to much.
Try enjoying time you have off work, to go with the flow like most of us out there - work hard, then play hard, it just makes it that more bearable!

Night shifts? How about working in a supermarket that's open 24hours - you know when you start, when you get a break and when you finish - pretty stress free at that time of day (or should I say night)... I don't know what you do at the moment but some offices have 'grave shift' overnight roles - sometimes typing and PA style work with companies around the world on different time zones. How about working in a cinema that shows night films?

trust me when i was young and silly i used to smoke weed and trying to get up in the morning was a nightmare i just could not do it, then i gave myself a shake and stopped smoking the evil weed
now i get up at 530 every morning and I'm full of life and have my own successful business

just do a night shift or if u can't find a job then just put on your application u can only come in from maybe 5pm-close or 3pm-close whatever suits u, because most businesses need more people working in the evening than in the morning depending on what job u have applied for.

Become an Independent Business Owner. Even Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump endorse Network Marketing Business. Work at home, online, at your own space, set your own scheduled.

Non retail late work. 2nd shift is usualy 3-11 or 4-midnight. Your days off can coincide with a late night out with friends and not cramp your schedule.

Work in the music industry or for local government.
Seriously, you don't have to be in at 9 for either of them.
