Dreams are subconscious routines being played out in your mind as a form of relief from either another subconscious thought or a conscious thought. It could be that you saw someone in a grocery store and said to yourself "that looks like my ex" and that triggered a hidden desire to reconcile.
It could also be something as simple as a song you heard form that point in time or a commercial on tv or if your watching a sitcom and a conversation between two people was sort of like one you had with him.
If there's any interest in a friendship - call him and see how he's doing. it that phone call turns into a meeting and both of you are not commited - take it to whatever elvel you both feel comfortable.
If the relatinship eneded poorly - let it go and stop dweeling or it will never change.

Several possible answers here. Dreams for sure are simply reincarnations of events already experienced in life with strange positive or negative twists and turns. They also can be brought out from things you think on time after time.
So, you've been in a relationship. There were good times and bad times. You may be thinking more of the good times and reconcilliation dreams are at the forefront of your mind. You may be longing for another good relationship with someone, but your ex has the most memories and you dream of him.
I hope that helps.

I also had the same experienced... i never dreamt of my ex for more than 5 years... and suddenly, he came into my dreams for like 3 consecutive days and in my dreams we are together as couples... I had those dreams when my life and career is in a bad situation and everything is not going well for me.

You probably just want closeness with someone and it's creeping in to your dreams.
I've been dreaming about someone more frequently, and in my dreams he thinks the world of me. Completely and totally loves me. In my case it's because as much as I hate to admit it, I wish it were true. It's hard not to let the feelings from the dream come into real life and start thinking about him. I know better than to go down that path, doesn't stop my mind from wandering there, especially in my sleep though.
Anyway, it probably doesn't mean anything more than your mind sorting old puzzle pieces out in your sleep.

It's a dream, and could be subconscience wishful thinking. Since, as you say, you've had relationships after. However, in your mind it seems that perhaps you're creating the x as more than what it really was.

It doesn't mean anything. Sometimes people pop into your dreams and it isn't God or Buddah or Bill Gates trying to send you any secret messages.

There is a subliminal message being transmitted to your brain as you read this. From now on... you will dream about me instead!
