Gracious winner.
When you win something you are in control of the said competition.
You are the " giving hand." and has nothing to prove.
You have now the choice between :
A) Stay on the first step of the podium and ignore people on the steps below.
Or.
B) Get down from this first step , place that is yours , and recognised as such , and study/appreciate what the " losers " have and that you DON'T have.
You will show your humility and wisdom .
Thank you for your question.

Gracious loser. Why? Because if you're a gracious loser:
1. You'll have more fun.
2. You set an example.
Don't get me wrong, being a gracious winner is important. Probably just as important as being a gracious loser.

A gracious loser I'd say. Why? Simply because it's too easy to be gracious when you're winning. However, it takes a lot of courage, strength of character and magnanimity to admit that someone else is better than you and be happy for him in spite of your disappointment about yourself.

"Gracious winner" is more important to me personally - because winning , in itself , can mean many different things .
For instance , to compete and win - by all means , being gracious - when others may have competed with just as much effort , and lost .. somehow gloating devalues your win . I'm talking about a personal win . Gracious wouldn't enter in all that much..for instance , winning a lottery because there is no skill involved .

I'd both are important, but you said to pick one only...
I'd pick gracious loser..
It takes courage and strength to pick up the pieces and start again. It takes great humility to let others win too. I'd really admire a gracious loser.

I'd say a gracious loser. That's the hardest part of life because it happens more often than not. Can I lose and not get bitter? Better still, can I lose often and not get bitter? If I can lose with grace and still run another race, then I think I can be okay.

To be a gracious loser, winning is easy, losing is hard and if you can truly lose with grace you are a winner.
