If you are talking about trying to get a high school diploma, (you put this question under this category), I would recommend checking out a community college that offers a G.E.D. course - this course will prepare you for the G.E.D. test that means you have passed high school cirriculum.

If you mean going to college or a trade school, I highly recommend it! You will most likely get a financial break and can "skip" courses by doing a portfolio. A portfolio is a written account of your life and all the skills you've aquired in your life. (Any mother can tell you they mastered many tasks such as budgeting, accounting, nursing, disaster management, to be humorous about it.) To get started on this track or to check it out more, go to your local community college or main office of a university you want to go to and talk with someone there. They can refer you to the right person.

Another option would be online schooling. Many colleges offer courses you can take online. It may only require buying a book and paying for the course itself. You can earn associates, bachelor's degrees, even masters degrees and accreditations for various trades such as cosmotology which you mentioned earlier.

BEST OF LUCK! In college I was about 15 years older than most of the kids entering. There was another lady who was late 50s. We all "adopted" her and helped her learn the ropes of college. She was a wonderful lady and for all the things she didn't know, she contributed so much more to the classes we were all in from all her life's experiences. It was a great experience for all of us.

Don't worry about what other people will think about it. I hope you have the will to do it. You'll be happier and you deserve to be happy. Good luck.
