3/4/07 bought a comp. for upstairs the new VISTA. had a family emerg. so didn't set it up for 2 wks bought the router and wireless adapter could not connect to internet after hours of messing with it no internet. Best buy would not return it.was 15 days i was 1 day late! i refuse to pay &158 for geek squad so hired my own computer guy. exchanged router and wireless adapter, so they r good, spoke with techs from NET GEAR, comcast and HP. Hp paid to have it shipped back to them , got it back and it still will not connect to internet, even when i brought it downstairs and hooked it directly to internet nothing. Contacted HP and a "MANAGER" was to call me....still waiting. I have alot of $$ in this machine that has a 1 year HP warranty on it , and at this point i can't even play a stupid game on it. OF COURSE after i buy it everyone is telling me there are big problems with vista because it is so new. ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEEEEEEEEEEZ

I am assuming that the network card in the HP is build into the system board. If it is a hardware issue with the PC, that would be the part most likely to be bad.

Go to your favorite computer store and buy a cheap network card and install it in the PC. If it connects, you know the problem and can either work with HP to get the system board replaced, or just use the new card.

If it still does not connect, then it is a configuration issue. Odds are that HP is not going to be useful in resolving that issue through their phone support. It will probably require a physical body in your home to look at the set up on both the PC and router. And that type of issue (unfortunately) falls outside your HP warranty. You will probably have to pay someone to come and look at it.

You could call and email to HP informing them of this post you have in Answers and telling them all the hype you're generating from this issue. Star this question as well so that more people will come take a look.

If you're in some other online forums, especially those that are PC related and review PCs or support of PCs, you could post there as well and make known to HP about it. They could just worry enough to send someone down whatever the cost is.

HP has horrible customer service. I recently went through a similar situation and just ended up returning the computer. They didn't want to at first but we insisted. It took hours and hours on the phone but eventually they took it back and I went with another brand. Vista works fine on my Toshiba. It's just HP that doesn't know what they are doing.

first off it isn't the computer it is the brand of computer. hp is not very reliable. it isn't a vista problem i am sure of it. for i run vista without a problem what you might have to do is see if there is a patch for your internet service for vista or talk to them and see if vista is compatable with thier services, if not i would be bugging hp about a refund or get the puter back and sell it then buy a "DECENT machine.

First, try to switch to Windows XP or Linux if you can.

Second, it sounds like you might have a faulty NIC. Start by trying to update your network adaptor drivers. If that doesn't work, then try a different network card.

Also, you can keep calling HP and start getting really really snarky with them. If you make enough threats to sue them, they'll listen.
