There are four time zones In the states. If you go to New York it's 5 hours behind us. If you go to California they are 8 hours behind us.

Different parts of America are on different time zones. Try finding a world clock on the internet and select the area in America you want to check.

Depends on where in America we are talking about. It is covered by 4 time zones.
Eastern Standard Time 5 hours
CDT 6
MDT 7
and Pacific Daylight Time 8 hours
Remember the USA has daylight saving too!

From your previous answers I'm guessing you're in the UK in which case the time difference is between 4 and 10 hours behind the time in the UK.
Being a large country the US is divided into different time zones. Hawaii is 10 hours behind the UK, Alaska is 9 hours behind, the west coast is 8 hours, west of centre is 7 hours, east of centre is 6 hours and the east coast is 5 hours.
New York for example is on the east coast and is 5 hours behind the UK, San Francisco is on the west coast and is 8 hours behind the UK.

What part of America, it's between five and nine hours, unless you mean Hawaii, which I've just remembered to my embarrassment is 11 hours behind us.

We are 5 hours ahead of the east coast (New York) and 8 hours ahead of the west coast, (Los Angeles).
Chicago is 6 hours behind us.
