I'm Irish and I'll be visiting Sharm el Sheikh for two weeks in September. During that time I'll also be visiting Cairo for a few days.

As I said I'm Irish, in case there's any confusion that means I'm from Ireland. I'm not trying to sound like a smart a$$ by the way.

Thanks for your answers guys, you've been very helpful. Once again I'm Irish, not American or British. The Republic of Ireland is a free state, I have an Irish passport, not a UK passport.

As far as I know, you get your visa at the airport after you land. You dont need to do anything before you leave Ireland, which I might add is a beautiful country!! I cried when I left there. When you get off the plane, follow the traffic. When you walk through the huge double doors, there will be lines and lines of people to your left. Look across the room, there will be glass windows and little rooms. These are banks. Go there first and buy your visa. They will give you 2 little stamps to put in your passport. Then go get in a line and be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

Doesn't matter what nationality you are, you need a visa in your passport to visit Egypt. It can also be bought in the airport, at least in the airport in Cairo. I have visited Egypt a lot, and I have always needed a visa. So, you need to enquire if people with a British passport can purchase the visitor's visa at the airport.

Yes, you do, but you can buy one when you get there. Have fun on your trip! Egypt is amazing - I just went there over my school's February break. Both Sharm el Sheikh and Cairo are cool - I visited both - good destination choice =)

you already been told you need one and its easiest and cheapest to buy at the airport, you will be told when you reach sharm that you do not need one for sharm which is correct BUT if you intend to leave the sinai penisular for even one day (E.G. VISIT TO CAIRO) you need a visa and its easiest to buy on entry#

Well, if you're FROM the United States of America, (this may not be accurate if you're NOT);
go to the US DEPARTMENT OF STATE online, they have all sorts of information including visas, local customs, electricity types, vaccination requirements and advisories, and local political climate.
I consult that even if I'm going to Canada - it can be quite informative.
