Not sure exactly what a 'glamour model' is, unless as you say, it is a person best described as a heavily made up 'tart'.
As a life long voyeur, I know that the best looking girls and women are walking the streets of London or any other major city of the Western World and can be seen on the Tube or any London bus.
Very often these are the type of fresh faced girls who hardly wear any make up at all. They are not interested in 'glamour'. Their interests include affordable fashion and the usual smart outfits for work and play.
They're all breautiful.
See the very stunning black girl in the latest BT Broadband ad. See what I mean. Well, she has no interest in broadband, which makes sense.

They appear in expensive magazines which cost a bomb. Who'll buy them if they don't promise glamour inside? And if you don't call the girls glamour models, who'll model for them? Will you answer to an ad for cheap tarts? (You might, thinking they're selling pastries:-) But then again, they ARE flaky, ha ha)

Because the industry named them. The porn peddlers probably thought that glamour model would sell better than cheap tart with no clothes on.
I can't help thinking that's not always true.....
