First, we factor the numerator:

[x→2]lim (x-2)(x+2)/(x-2)

Now, one of the factors cancels:

[x→2]lim (x+2)

And this may be evaluated directly as:

f(x)=x^2-4/x-2
f(x)=(x-2)(x+2)/x-2=x+2
lim x+2=4
