Will my elderberry bushes grow back okay? My stepson accidentally decimated them with a chainsaw.?

Poor boy. He thought he was cutting back all the invasive sumac.

You have a great attitude . and he had great intentions.
Sure ! They will come back even bushier. It would be a good idea to prune them off sharply to help them heal and to avoid damage from insects or disease.

Yes, they will send out new growth from the bottom and probably spread, as well.

Sure, they're perennials. They will be bushier, maybe better than before.
