Are people really that dumb that they will agree with a politician just because they voted that way last time?

YES! I knew an office of women in upstate NY who voted for George Bush in 2000 because he was GOODLOOKING.

I met a woman from Texas once who flatly told me, "I don't know anything about politics, my daddy voted Republican and his daddy voted Republican and his daddy voted Republican and HIS daddy voted Republican, so I vote Republican."

40% always vote GOP
40% always vote Dem
20% choose the next President of the United States.

In 2008 all 20% will be voting for Hillary.

I don't think it's so much mind-less as pathological.

They identify with this or that group for whatever reason - their parents voted for that party, whatever (in MA it's largely local pride since JFK was a Democrat) and nothing will change their identification with that group - but worse, it's not like they admit that their party is wrong or even inconsistent on this or that issue - they don't - it's the lengths to which they'll go to avoid admitting that their party is wrong. The parties had a debate in the late 1970s and early 1980s about the economy and taxes and the GOP clearly won that debate - - yes, the economy did well under Clinton but primarily because he governed as a Republican on economic issues, expanding free trade, opening up huge corporate tax loopholes, continuing deregulation and signing welfare reform. But you talk to people up here in MA, they say oh, no, we were better off in the days of the misery index! Federal tax revenue keeps climbing yet these people insist that the tax cuts were a bad idea and every year they keep coming up with new excuses for the revenue gains that they keep insisting will reverse themselves.

A lot of people in my area just vote the way their parents and grandparents did. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard "My Daddy would roll over in his grave if I voted that way!" What many of them do not know/believe is "that way" was bought. One particular party paid ignorant and unconcerned people as little as $40 for a party vote as little as 40 years ago!

Others just get so emotional caught up in one issue, they never bother to look at bigger pictures. I have worked elections and people will come in staggering drunk and ask me how they should vote. Others will come in stone cold sober and say quietly, "Can you tell me something about these candidates? Which one should I vote for?" I want to tell them to just go home and say a prayer.

I vote for the person who I believe best represents our country and to be honest, I see nobody that lights my fire. If what you ask is completely true, neither side would ever get into power. People must cross party lines for a President to get the majority vote.

For the same reason people do anything mindlessly. They are expected to, and they don't question either themselves or the premise of the agenda they are following.

Good one...Most because their parents, grand parents and great grand parents supported the same party.

I asked a stupid chick that works with me why she voted the way she did. She said because she was a Democrat. I asked her why. The more she babbled the more my head began to hurt. LOL

You'll have to ask mindless people. Good luck on getting any response, much less an intelligent one.
