Everytime I place a USB drive on my computer (new computer, Vista Ultimate
RTM), it asks for a driver, goes searching and then cant find it.
Even my mouse gets asked...it didnt before.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

in response to your answers of just 'downloading the drivers' you have to understand that this shouldn't happen with anything. So far anything i stick in i get this..this includes my ipod and usb stick.

it should automaticly install theres no excuse.

Go to the UFD manufacturer's web site and read the FAQ's, you are not alone.

Did the mouse work before you tried the UFD? If yes, the mouse issue IS a result of your first problem.

First I believe that Windows Vista should support most of all hardware which supposed to install the hardware automatically. Since it is not so, whenever you purchase an hardware (USB or any type) an installation CD will alway comes with it, so after plugging it to the port (USB) and you see install hardware using the installation CD, just put it inside the CD (the installation CD) and following the installlation wizard one by one until you see an information like this on the task bar (system tray) "your hardware as been installed and it is ready to use" then you can use the hardware but if not, restart your computer system and do the same thing.

Secondly, if your hardware did not come with an installation CD, you can search for the driver on the net, so after searching, you can install the driver of the hardware.

Hey,

[Without knowing more about your system status, this answer will be partially helpful.]

An OS like windows vista is supposed to recognize most of the hardware. Usually there is no need to install any driver for a mouse, Thumb Drive etc. But if your system is asking for a driver often, you might as well want to update your windows, with the automatic update facility in windows.

Allow windows to find the right drivers, and let it install all the patches, and updates.

Turn Off your system, and then boot it again, this time try to connect a simple device like a mouse, it should help.
