Rarely! We had one guy in high school who wore them, he's the only one I've ever seen wearing them in school, town, etc though... those who still wear them wear them only on the farm, they usually put on shoes when going to town. And even farmers often wear shoes or boots nowadays.

The oldest picture of the clog is from the 15th century, the clog was common from around that time until the first half of the 20th century, when rubber boots and workshoes replaced them for many people.

It's not only the Dutch but the folk in Lancashire, England too. However I have been to both places and never saw one person wearing clogs. Lots of bicycles though, more than you can imagine.

Oke thank you soooo much for asking that question, it really got me into a good mood:) I am dutch and I haven't even worn any clogs in my life! So I think people will be more surprised if you do wear them. I don't know where you're going to live in Holland but it's mostly farmers who still wear clogs or you can just wear wellington boots. But most people just use umbrella's when it rains. Thanks for cheering me up!

I am not Dutch, but some of my ancestors were and I wear the clogs I bought in Holland while there as a tourist. They are surprisingly comfortable, so it is a pity that there are few situations in which it is appropriate for me to wear them (costume parties and parades, for example). I wear them around the house. I have heard that some Dutch people wear them when working in their gardens.

NO, people would look very strange if you were them in the city. But its very common for farmers to wear them wen they are working on the fields. But they also normally wear shoes.
I still have them and use them wen I want to work in the garden. But that's not common.

It's a question like ; Do Americans still have to be aware of Indians wen they traveling by coach ?

Did you ever see DJ Tiesto, Anne Frank, Rutger Hauer, Ruud Gullit, Vincent van Gogh on clogs, they are Dutch.

I live in the east of the country which is more farming country. Some of the farmers still wear clogs when out in the fields, but it is not that common.
But all the farm supply stores here have racks of them for sale.

They were pretty common back in the 50's though. My stepmother who grew up in that era in the country says the family all used to wear them out on the farm ... but only as the equivalent of gumboots.
