Edmonton is Alberta's capital city.. Its pretty nice place. I grew up there.. Its a working city, blue collar type. Almost dead centre in the province. Alot of history here including Northamericas largest recreated Fort, Largest mall West Edmonton Mall it is a one stop shop, takes a good 2 1/2 days to go threw everything ...3 to enjoy some of the attractions there... Muttart Conservatory is neat set up of 2 pyramids full of unique horticulture... In the summer there are lots going on because of the number of parks located within the city limits... as well as the Fringe Festival off of Whyte Ave that is here every year... Im not sure why but alot of people who visit from New York really like Edmonton and have moved here. I use to work the public so heard a number of comments made.
After all its still a place where you can hang out till 3 am without getting raped or murdered. Of course like any city common sense comes into play. Stay out of alley ways and so forth.
Best place to look it up is either travel Alberta cause this province has alot to show and tell... Along with any map site showing where its located.. Google and of course Google Earth.

Edmonton is indeed the capital city of a province called Alberta.
Alberta is the second province starting westward, looking at the map. Edmonton is central (ish) on the Alberta map.

You probably won't really get a good idea where it is if we just tell you it is in Alberta 3 hrs north of Calgary.
