I worked out my period will start whilst in Turkey on my hols this august. I hear there are tabs you can get from the GP to stop the period happening for a special occasion. Its not my honeymoon or anything just me, hubby and the kids. But period will be a pain. Is it worth it or are the side effects worse?

I use Northerhisterone (I think that's how you spell it!). I do scuba diving so it's perfect for me as it's only a low dose hormone because I'm intolerant to both the female, mixed and male hormones in the various contraceptive pills. I get severe migraines so the pill is too much of a risk. I don't take the N tablets for too long, but even after that I sometimes get withdrawal headaches. Check it out with the docs though!

The tablets used to stop periods for a time are birth control pills and yes, I have taken the birth control pill for a time to stop my periods. I do so for medical reasons that have been ongoing for the past 10 years.

One of the side effects that can occur with taking the pill so as not to have a period is having bleeding that make one think that they are having a period when it's not and just breakthrough bleeding.

I would recommend talking to your dr, preferably a gynecologist if you have one to see what they think about you taking the pill in this fashion.

Yes its worth it, but bear in mind that as soon as you stop taking the tablets you start your period. The other alternative is that if you are taking the contraceptive pill dont have a break, just start a new pack. This is quite safe to do.
