Find out email addresses of people in my local town so that i can start to advertise myself, by email, for a business i am starting.
Can you give me some ideas please.

It's over £600 per month to advertise in the local newspaper.
A lot of money when first starting out.

Hmm... bit of a tricky one. There are no sites, that I am aware of, that would hold that information but you could always look up local businesses online and get their emails from there.

Actually I understand what you are trying to do and sympathise. However as you know everybody is constantly besieged by spam. I accept that's not what you are trying to do but people are so fed up with spam that you may find it counter productive. I tend to just bin any unsolicited e-mail as do most people. Given that you have a computer could you not produce a small attractive flyer giving details of your business and perhaps offering a dicount with the flyer and get some local kids to distribute them for you. It's a lot cheaper than newspaper adverts. Hope this helps and good luck with the business.

Advertise in the local paper.
Show your web site address and add a way for people to submit their Email addresses to it.
Don't forget to include your phone number.

I wouldn't like your advertising coming through my mail box, I would put it into the spam . Try using your local paper, weekly advertiser.Good luck with it any way.

Data Protection Act protects this sort of info being readily available or there would be 10x times the spam we get already.
Not for one mo suggesting you're a spammer but that's the way it is (thank heavens)

Get yourself a MySpace if you have not already.
Then you can search people in your area ask to be on their friends list and they will visit your page before deciding to add you... your page will describe you and your buisness.
Also, you can put out an advertisment on the MySpace Classifieds!

theres no way out except you ask people individually. Business directories only have business organization email addresses. I cant see any solution for this.
