No it is still valid.

If you change it or renew it, (which you are required to do when you reach the age of 70) then you will be issued with the new Two part paper and picture card licence.

I assume that the address is correct. That would be a reason for it to be renewed.

Even though you may have a new photo licence, (credit card size so it's easy to carry around), you still have a paper licence to go with it that you keep at home.

It's perfectly valid yes. The next time any change is required to the licence however (ie change of name, address or points added/removed) you will be required to upgrade to the new photo-style licence.

Legal, Yes
Convenient, perhaps not, as rental companies, foreign cops &c.&c. want a photo license. Also it may do as photo id for internal air travel.
NB the actual license is not so good as you have to carry two parts

yes it still legal but you are required by law to change it to a new photo id if you change address or change you name.
