I guess it depends what operating system you are using but I would suggest a minimum of 1 GB RAM so your machine is not continually swapping data to disk. If you are running Vista even more RAM would be better

now many things can cause your problem:
1- you need to upgrade your RAMs a min of 512 MB would be best
2- you might want to defragment your hard disk so that you get a better performance too go to control panel>Administrative tools>Computer Management>Disk Derfragmenter. first let the system analyse the hard disks and it will tell u if they need defragmentation.
3- you might have spywares and viruses in your pc then what you need to do is install an antivirus and scan it.
I recommend AVG antivirus and AVG anti-Spyware they are available free of charge @ http://www.grisoft.com
4- you can aquire some tune Up utilities online. some of them can even repair errors in your PC so that it runs smoothly.
usually it's a matter of cleaning your PC
I hope These were useful take care!

i offered Registry Mechanic a pair of years in the past (Freebies do no longer alway do the activity they are meant to do and do exactly definitely the minimum) for roughly £25. You get unfastened updates. you would be shocked the garbage it wiped sparkling out. each and every time you load a software and delete it you bypass away it interior the Registry because section isn't deleted. that's what slows you down. on condition that I certainly have been making use of it, i've got had no sluggish downs. it is going to additionally compress the registry. the 1st time I ever used it it saved me 14% of disc area on a 40 Gb stress approximately 4.6 Gb, that's a hell of particularly some area. I constantly use it after loading a sparkling or deleting a software or after a defrag.

XP with Service Pack 2 needs at least 512MB of RAM, Vista even more. Linux really doesn't care.
Upgrade your RAM, it's cheap now. Until then, don't keep a lot of other Windows open, I wouldn't have more than 2 open at any time.
Whenever I hear the word "slow", I suspect Malware, your PC may be infected.

As you put programs on your PC so it will slow down, so first of all remove any programs that are no longer required. Next I recomend you increase your RAM to at least 1 Gig. I assume you are running XP it so go into your windows and look for a folder called cursors. open this folder and you will see a whole lot of different cursors. Delete the first two top rows. Leave the next row. this row will have a black arrow cursor on the end and a simmiler one about half way alond the same line. now delete all the othere one's below that line so you only have one line of cursors left. the otheres are not needed but XP put's them in any way, Now go back to your windows and look for a floder called SYSTEM 32. be very careful in here and only do as I say. once you have opened this folder you will see a lot of othere folders. look for a folder caller oobe, open it and look for another folder called images open this folder and you will see lots of pics delete all of those (again not needed) once U have done that, close that folder and look for a folder called MOUSE open that folder and again look for a folder labled IMAGES and delete all the pics in there. then close back up to your desktop. empty bin. go again to windows and find a folder called PREFETCH and empty that. back to your desktop and empty you bin once again restart your PC and it should be a little faster
Hope this helps.

Scan your computer with Antivirus.
Go to Start, Click run, type msconfig, go to startup, and uncheck those programs that u don't need to start when your computer reboot or start, click apply/ok, restart your computer. And uninstall programs that u don't need in control panel. Adding more memory will speed up ur pc. Download and install ccleaner from filehippo.com, a simple tool that removes unused and temporary files. http://www.ccleaner.com/

it depends . sometimes there may be a virus and it runs enough to use all cpu power . fr this press ctrl+alt+del if in xp then goto processes and right click unknown processes and end process tree(except system files spoolsv , lsass , winlogon) even programs that startup with the system come under the system catagory so check system processes. real system processes mostly can not be ended.
