I'm 17 and I think my mum thinks I am losing weight to quickly.
I've never been over weight but I still would like to lose a few!

Last year my eatting and exercise patterns were pretty bad. This year I've been concentrating on just being healthy. I've been exercising quite a bit and eatting ok, but better than previously.

My mum has been commenting lately that i've lost a lot of weight (i'm still in the healthy weight range).

I've noticed lately that she has put on a bit of weight (she would be considered underweight, but because of her recent coeliacs diagnosis she has put on possibly 5kgs)

Anyway, since my mum has been commenting about my weight she has started offering and giving me sugary and fatty foods, rather than the fruit and veges I would normally be given.

Do you think my mum is trying to make herself feel better about her small weight gain? Or something else?

Thanks

It is always important to eat healthily and to maintain a healthy BMI.

If you feel uncomfortable with what your Mom has been doing, find a good time, sit down with her and talk to her about it and how you feel. Try to find out how she feels and work things out together with her.

Nothing is more important other than family ties and a healthy body.

No diet should be started without consulting with your doctor first.Fad diets are not the way to go as you are probably aware. To lose your weight and maintain it requires you to make lifestyle changes.I think your mom would feel better if the doctor confirmed that your weight loss is within the healthy range.I'm sure you have read my answers concerning weight and body image so you know how I feel on that subject. Your mother loves you and wants to know that you are not going to extremes. With regards to her offering you sugary and/or fatty foods just say" no thanks, I prefer a piece of fruit, raw vegetables, fish etc." Maybe you could help your mom make up a shopping list. In my family their is a predisposition for diabetes so my daughters are quite aware of the importance of diet and fitness.Good health and fitness work hand in hand and require a lifetime commitment. Take care.

Sometimes, when individuals indulge in conduct they feel guilty about, e.g., enjoying unhealthy food, they like to have an accomplice. The dynamics are comradery and distributed guilt.

Do you do any of the cooking or purchasing? You could volunteer, to make some great healthy meals. It could also be a challenge, to find healthy substitutes for those sugary and fatty foods.

Sounds like she may genuinely be worried about you. Assure her that you are eating enough and explain to her that you just want to be healthy. Make sure that you eat in front of her so she doesnt think that you are starving yourself.
