My best friends wouldn't keep that secret from me because I am their moral compass and experience has taught them that keeping things from me is to their own determent. The worst telling me that they are cheating will do is get them an earful of wisdom. The worst that not telling me can get them is a jealous lover attacking them and I am no where around to protect or rescue them.

Significant others on the other hand, they should take that secret to their grave. It will only strain the relationship. I try and give them the benefit of the doubt. You are saying I find out that I am wrong for doing so. So, my trust is gone, the honesty is gone, and the caring has turned to pain. That is why they should just keep it to themselves. As soon as I know this I have to decide whther I can ever care for them the same way again. I can understand the inclination to cheat, the yearning for something new and exciting, but; accepting and understanding are two different things. Not only do i have to let her cheat on me with another but I have to cheat on myself with that same person, a person who cared nothing about me when he started seeing her. I don't know how long it would take but I would hope it would take forever.

Well my best friend is a guy and so is my significant other and as far as i know they are both straight. So if they were to have an affair i dont think i would catch on. But if my best friend did do that to be then he would not be my best friend anymore.

This happened to my best friend. Her husband and another good friend of hers were having an affair and it lasted 5 months before she found out. Of course my best friend had an affair with another man and that's how all this came to head.

It was quite the scandal.

My significant other and my best friend are one in the same. (No, we're not gay. LOL)
We just have to keep it a secret from 2 other people.

That would be up to their level of courage. They know I would never want to hold them back from any experience they want to have.
