Do you believe that laws banning gay marriages are constitutional? In your answers, I don't wanna see any mention of religion. I would also like to see constitutional support for your arguments

"The constitution is suppose to be a guideline for lawmakers to create laws for the benefit of the MAJORITY." - So we should discriminate against racial minorities, bring back segregation? This argument is completely wrong.

"Any gay marriage will and cannot be a productive act for the simple reason they cannot conceive and bear children. Without a new generation to replace the older one, a country will soon cease to be productive. Society in general thrive on the perpetuity of reproduction and infusion of new beings." - So we should also not allow the elderly or infertile straight people to marry?

"Now, if the constitution is the great protector of our civil liberties, then allowing gay marriage will only, in the long term, cause the destruction of our society" - how again? Civil liberties are tailored toward individuals (or groups against other groups) which only argue for the rights of homosexuals, not against. Please reply again.

Since your asking about separating church and state, I can say I feel that ALL families should deserve and receive the same benefits and respect. We recognize common law marriage in my state, why should that not also reflect all partners, gay, straight, for whatever reason they do or do not want to marry. A marriage license should not solely mean that two people, who love each other, of opposite sex, can only be families. Whom ever people should desire to spend their lives with should be allowed.
I also feel that our sex lives make up a very small part of who we are. Many other things define us. As we grow older it becomes less important.
I am not gay, but, had my mother been, I do not feel she would have made her a worse parent or wife. She would have been a wonderful mother either way.

+++I disagree with our constitution because we all know gay people can procreate and have children. Even though it may not be both parties biological child, biology does not have any bearing on what kind of parent any one would be. We have straight couples who cannot conceive, and use surrogate and donors. Gays do so as well. Laws need to be updated by those standards. But back then we did not have technology like we do today.

Gay marriage is not only unconstitutional but downright insulting to the constitution. The constitution is suppose to be a guideline for lawmakers to create laws for the benefit of the MAJORITY. First, gay, lesbians and all other so called third sex is a minority. Any gay marriage will and cannot be a productive act for the simple reason they cannot conceive and bear children. Without a new generation to replace the older one, a country will soon cease to be productive. Society in general thrive on the perpetuity of reproduction and infusion of new beings. Many arguments can be raise as to the productivity of gay. I have no doubt they can be productive in other areas and field but none is as important as being productive in the biological sense.
Now, if the constitution is the great protector of our civil liberties, then allowing gay marriage will only, in the long term, cause the destruction of our society.

You can't have a discussion about marriage without discussing religion, as marriage is a religious ceremony.

The gay marriage ban shouldn't be constitutional issue! That's NUTS! Whether or not an individual of any religion chooses to perform such a marriage is personal! Our government should not have the right to decide if it's OK or not! As far as I'm concerned, there is SO nothing to debate, or vote on. If you support it, get involved. If you don't...mind your own business!!

My question to you is, why do you suppose so many gays are fighting for a ceremony that clearly does not embrace them? If I were gay I would want no part of it. I wouldn't spend my time trying to make it legal, I would spend it passing new legislature that would recognize a "civil union" as having the same rights as the "traditional marriage".

I think that gay marriage should be legal. Whos to say besides "God" ( I won't even get going on that subject) that two people who love eachother shouldn't get married.

I think its horrible that we as humans can decide whether or not two people can get married. I know if I was gay I would be upset at the fact that barberic people tell me that I can't make vows to my partner. They are humans also and they should have just as much right as any other humans.

People are such bigits!

By defination a marriage is a legal and a holy union between a man and a woman. It protects a woman and children when the man dies.

You would have to change the defination of marriage to have gay marriages. You can't have something that doesn't exist.

I personally don't think there should be gay marriages. I wouldn't mind Gay Unions. Whats wrong with that?

I think it is okay for gay people to marry....they are no less human than us. If this was a gay world....we, heterosexuals, would be the outcasts...... I know you said no mention of religion...but i am also a Christian....and i think being gay is wrong, and everything that follows that....like marriage. but i would not stop it....due to the fact that I believe God has given us all free will...and we take it away from the gays! that is morally wrong! but...even when we are not talking about religion...if i had no religion...i would still think it is wrong to stop gay marriage....because they are people...who are different. if your white...would u stop black people from marrying just because they are different? no....gays..are just different. so they should be allowed to marry. and i dont understand this country....because they put ' in God we trust ' on their dollar bills.....YET they act as if there is no god. they exclude God. they dont think about the fact that we alll know it is wrong....and i do NOT support gay marriage as a Christian...nor would i support it as a non Christian...but i would allow it because as Christian...God gave free will....and they act like they are Christians just because they kept the in God we trust slogan on the dollar bills....they arent even close....beginning with banning gay marriages...God gave free will. I think being gay is unnatural.....but gay people are still human.

OK. I've read your question and everyone's answer. So, I have to ask you, What was this country founded on? What's written on the back of every Dollar Bill in America? Have you read The United States Constitution of America?

Here, Read it for yourself. http://www.constitution.org/constit_.htm

It's definitely a human right's issue. I'd mention religion here, but you don't want me to.

Anyway, I'm Canadian and we recognise gay marriage. I'm not gay, but I'm proud! :) America is usually behind Canada and Europe on these sorts of issues. Give it another 5 to 15 years and homosexual marraige will be American recognised too.

How are you going to ask a question, then turn around and tell us how to answer it? Why even bother asking then?
