Were the clowns full sized when you bought them or juveniles? If they were adults, they may not ever pair. If they were juveniles, you might have a chance.

Clowns have an odd gender determination. They're all born male. The largest, most aggressive fish in a group will become a female and the next largest/most aggressive becomes a functional male. If the male dies, the next male in line takes his place. If the female dies, the functional male becomes a female and the next male move into the former male's position. And once they become a female, they can't change back. Add to this that clowns are semi-aggressive to aggressive and territorial. So if you introduced your clowns at different times, or if they were purchased as adults, you have a lot working against you. Adults should only be purchased if they're a known pair.

If you bought juveniles and introduced them at the same time, you have a better chance of getting them to pair up, but it's still no guarantee. The best method is to buy a group of about four very young fish and let them pair up as they want.

Some times it is better to have more than just the two, then they can chose there own partner and it gives them more reason to want to breed, they'll also want to show of to each other an prove who is the best mate but with only 2 it's hard for them to do there normal ritual.

convicts are freshwater only, you can add some aquarium salt, and clowns are strictly salt water, and your convicts would F*** the S*** out of the clown, they are like the mexicans of the freshwater world.
