I've heard that regret is our most useless emotion, pretty pointless actually. Thinking about it, I'd have to say I agree with this statement. Every other emotion I think of has at least one purpose, but what does regret ever do for us? Heck, whatever happened happend, learn from it and move on. How productive is beating yourself over for it?

Agree or disagree?

If this really is a useless emotion, why do we feel it?

Hopefully we learn from things we regret.

I think it is part of a human desire to do the right thing, and it may be useless in practice, but it's not a bad thing for us to have some regrets when we mess up.

And, I agree, once we've done that and taken whatever lessons it offers we should move on. I do think regret is properly part of the process, however.

Regret isn't pointless. it helps us learn from our past mistakes by perhaps being able to identify them.

however, dwelling on your past mistakes and wallowing in regret is counterproductive.

as the Janitor on scrubs said,

"time spend wishing is time wasted."

If you didn't regret, how would you be able to decipher what you like and what you don't?
