Actually the very rich and super rich can be very charitable. I find it's the "well off" but not very rich or super rich who are more likely to look down on those less fortunate.

By the way. There are poor people who work just as hard, if not harder, than rich people. Many of the world's poor work 14-17 hours a day, 7 days a week, and earn so little that work alone cannot pull them out of poverty.

I think of this as a very broad question. But I'll enter what comes to mind.

GREED is possible but that might be extreme.
SECURITY might best fit your answer.

May you be born rich or especially who climbed the wealth ladder, will always guard what you or your ancestors have worked hard for. Unfortunately, this is a dog-eat-dog world so netting what you have would be a natural instinct.

Playing the devil's advocate here, I also find it unreasonable to simply spoonfeed the poor while I burn my brains out to come up with ideas so I will not lose what I have. It would be quite irresistable not to help people, poor people whom you see give it all yet are not paid fair. It is also a matter of handling money well. Not much people know how to do this.

I believe rich people WORK HARD to stay rich. What do the poor people do?

Define rich. Define helping. America gives more freely of money than any other country in the world and we give it world wide.

Now if you're asking why we are not all financially equal, that is a different story. Mostly because Socialism and Communism has pretty much failed that I can see. Teaching a man to fish and giving him a fish are two different things. Alot of people asking for help really mean they want hand-outs for ever.

I don't mind helping and I'm sure not rich. But I definitely dont want to help so much that I go broke so someone can say I'm a good guy.

-because they haven't experienced poverty and as I've seen my country here there are some poor people here and some of them doesn't want to receive the help of some rich people because they think that the rich people are stepping at them. For some rich people they don't really give I think they negotiate they don't give without exchange for something. A good example are some of the politicians do you think they help the needy for free ? I dont think so, there more like getting the votes of the poor for their reputation .

They got "rich" in the first place, because their inner focus was on being materially wealthy. They set their entire life around that goal and made sacrifices in the name of their endeavor. They have been practicing at 'focusing' on material possesion for as long as they have been working to achieve it. Therefore it their "focus" all their life was MATERIAL POSSESSION, how can they possibly understand SPIRITUAL OBSESSION. Better analogy.... you spend 10 years saving up to by a cadillac, how are you gonna understand the benefit or "usefullness" or logic of taking the bus and saving your money?

Because it *is* difficult. Even if you have a lot of money and resources, it's still very challenging to find and implement solutions to poverty that really work.
