I beleive it is a necessity, for me anyway. I cannot answer this as a generalized question because I am not other people just me.
I can tell you that when I go any length of time without it I get grumpy. I do not like being grumpy. It is a natural act, BUT I feel that people who have a HEALTHY sex life are happier people in general. It affects us physically in more ways than you know--good when we have it and BAD when we don't.

I used to to the point where there was no way I date someone who I couldn't have a VERY active sex life with, but I've since lost my sex drive (Karma I guess) and so now I'm hoping my boyfriend doesn't consider it to be a necessity

Sex is not a necessity, but an added bonus :)
For me, no it isn't because i have a zero libido due to heavy medications. It would be a necessity if your were primaryly looking at it from a breeding and repopulation view point.

I consider it a necessity, but not vital to life. It`s an important part of a relationship, but other aspects come first, like trust, honesty, devotion and above all else, love. Sex fits in there somewhere, but not top priority. It`s an intimacy and closeness shared by two people who have all the above in there relationship, in other words, it completes the picture.

To a point. There is more to a relationship than just sex ...
there's kinky sex ;-)
You need to be careful how you use sex in a relationship. Due to the release of hormones like PEA and Oxytocin, there are psychological effects as well as physical effects of having sex ... and that doesn't even include the consequences of STDs.

Libido varies from person to person, yet is often reliable in youthful adults. that's a utilising tension in people and is powerful in the two women and men. that's as reliable a force as starvation or drug dependancy. This concept that individuals can 'basically say no' is nonsense. in line with probability that's authentic once you're sixty years previous, yet a youthful healthy individual could desire to have a reliable libido. kinfolk making plans is an prevalent medical intervention for no less than the final fifty years, and coverage could desire to conceal it basically as libido enhancers including Viagra is roofed for older adults so as that they are in a position to relish intercourse while libido diminishes. If sexual intercourse is substantial for a 63 hundred and sixty 5 days previous, then that's barely as substantial for a thirty three hundred and sixty 5 days previous without the possibility of being pregnant diminishing libido. Edit:The concept that woman sexual intercourse is for procreation in undemanding terms and that ladies human beings don't have a functioning intercourse force is prudish and antiquated. that's what human beings say who don't comprehend human sexuality or who prefer to suppress it. extra, unintentional and undesirable being pregnant is a disease state in women human beings and is a rightful concern of the medical community, and merits well being care dollar costs as much as impotence.*

I think sex is an important part of life, obviously you can survive without it, but it is an important part of a intimate relationship. That said if my husband were to meet with an accident and we wouldn't be able to have sex then I could live without it and find other ways to bring eachother intimate pleasure.

i really don't think it's a "necessity", but it is part of human nature. as long as a person can control themselves i think sex is wonderful, who doesn't? everyone wants some form of intimacy. sometimes it's sex, and sometimes it can be just a simple hug.

Absolutely neccessary!
Guys at work are hanging on my every description of the previous nights escapades. If it wasn't for sex, I'd have nothing to contribute to their conversations.
