this is my first year doing track and a couple days ago i realized that i got a shin splint but i don't feel pain in my shin. it only hurts in my left leg, on the outside of the thigh and a little around my knee.
it's gotten worse since i've continued attending practice and i also have a meet tomorrow.
also today i felt a really sharp "pop" when i was practicing hurdles
is there anything i can do to help my leg feel better a.s.a.p.?
thanks!

What you are describing sounds like IT band tendinitis. One thing that you can do today is stretch thoroughly, especially your gluteal (butt) muscles. Also make sure you put an ice bag directly on the area that usually hurts for 15 minutes ASAP after you do any running whether it hurts or not. Ultimately you should go see an orthopedic doctor and get a referral from the doctor for physical therapy so that you can get this issue properly diagnosed and get the appropriate treatment.

Best way to heal is to not run. Second best is to ice your leg. Just go in 20 minute intervals, twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off, for as long as you like. The longer the better. Do this after every practice and every meet. The pain will definitely lessen, and maybe go away altogether. ibuprofen always helps too.
