You realize that this question could cause a riot, right?

It's not a simple question. Your answer depends on your priorities. Apple computers tend to fit users who will be satisfied with Apple's idea of what a computer should be. Ideal Apple users need to deal with the somewhat more limited software available, so if you want to do anything obscure, Apple may not be a good choice.

So, if you're OK with paying more for similar horsepower, and are OK with cookie-cutter designs that can't be 3rd party modified, and like Apple's view of the computing world, then you might like their products.

Go to the Apple store, or ask to borrow a friend's machine for a test drive. You can't really tell until you try one out.

Personally, I had an Apple II Plus, long ago, and haven't owned an Apple product since about 1982. I've used them professionally, many times over the years, but have never really been grabbed by them. They used to have a much larger advantage for people who just wanted something that would work, straight out of the box, but these days, there are plenty of PCs from many different manufacturers that fit that description. The array of hardware configs for PC users is almost infinite. I was always a tinkerer, so I didn't mind building my own PCs and kludging my way to success. Nowadays I just buy systems and they work. No problem.

If I received an Apple as a gift, I'd probably use it, but wouldn't go out of my way to buy one. They're OK, but considering that they're the other major choice, they're not that much better, or even that much different, really, and their closed, one might say "cloistered" architecture is frustrating for somebody who likes to tinker with the guts of things.

I use Windows, OS X and Linux and like them all. Windows is the most demanding due to security issues. No malware on the others to date.

Macs are not more expensive than PCs. Try this: Price out a Mac, then go to Dell and try to match all the hardware (and Media Centre Edition). You'll find they're pretty close in price (within about 10%).

Then, ADD the Windows software you use, like M$-Office, Nero, etc. and Macs are less expensive than many people realize.

The world uses Windows because Linux was harder to use, but that's changing rapidly. For example, Kubuntu Linux is a joy to use and it's free.

The bottom line is: It's your choice, try them first, then you can decide.

NO! Those Apple commercials are misleading, plus Apple users are like a cult! :)
There are many problems with Apple:
They are more expensive
The accesories are proprietary (meaning less options and more costly)
Limited software selection
Limited user tweaking (you can't control many of the settings that you can with Windows)
Technical problems (they may seem like they don't exist, but they do, it's just that the Apple cult doesn't like talking about it)

Sure, Windows has it's problems, but there is a reason the majority of the world uses it. It's simply better!

always had a PC then got a mac book, luv it, I am probably a lifer now. Have never heard someone regret getting a mac, however have heard many complaints from PC owners. Mouse does stink (does not affect me,laptop) but you can always buy a different mouse.
