a friend of mine is moving to florida in a year or 2, for 2 years with her boyfriend to go to flight school. She invited me along and really wants me to go.
I think it'd be a great opportunity, because ive ever been out of wisconsin, however it'd be major culture shock and I know I'd miss my family like crazy. Also I'd be at the mercy of my friend and her boyfriend.
I've never lived by myself and it'd be a huge change, but a great opportunity, and it is only for 2 years.
should I go? there are several pros and cons, and i dont know what to do.

In a Year or Two anything can happen , your friend might not even have the same boyfriend or might even change her mind about flight school.
When the time comes for you to make a decision if nothing is holding you back , like your parents can manage fine without you.
It would be a great experience but have a backup plan , if something goes wrong like boyfriend can't stand you anymore or vice versa you can always go back home , cell phone plans are so cheap that you can talk to your parents everyday if you like , and it's not like your not enlisting in the Armed Forces , you can always go home to visit.
If you and your girlfriend are the best of friends and you feel you can do this , GO FOR IT !!!!!!!
See if you can go to school while in Florida , get a Job out there , see what it feels like to be on your own , and make the best of it.
It's nice to dream and get excited about the future , should you decide to go to Florida GOOD LUCK.

The weather shock will be enough to handle. You'll end up getting a bunch of new clothes. You probably need to become familiar with some Spanish or Cuban language depending on where in Florida you'll be.
Also consider the job market. If there are 3 of you living together, it will get a little old for all 3 of you. If you have a job and contribute to rent and have your own room, that's good. If not, it may be a short stay. Age makes a difference too.
Personally, I'd rather be in Wisc. because I don't care for tropical weather. Too hot , humid, and lots of bugs etc.
Think long and hard about it since you don't want to ruin a friendship or have the whole thing turn into a nightmare. At least have the means to go back home within a few days notice if need be. I wish you luck.

i live in florida and it is a nice place to live. i love the weather, nice sunny days, pools and beaches to help you stay cool. someone said something about the spanish language, i suppose maybe further down south in some parts, but this is still america so im pretty surte they speak mostly english.
if moving to a college town it is more expensive i suppose, because the jobs are mostly starting at minimum wage b/c of students and rent is pretty high. i share a nice 3 bedroom 3 bath with my boyfriend and mom and the rent is 280 a peice which isn't bad at all. but a 1 bedroom in my apartment complex is 600, 720 for 2, and 840 for 3. it seems more expensive that way, but when you have roommates its more affordable. i stay in a college town, GO GATORS, and there is plenty of things to do. its fun and a good experience. so good luck.

Hi. 24 y/o male. 4 year Navy vet. GO FOR IT! Remember that you will NEVER be at anyones mercy. If you find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, remove yourself. I assume you'll have a car? You should normally be able to sleep in it in Florida. And hey.... keep enough cash available that you can get behind the wheel and come home at the drop of a hat if need be. You will have the best time of your life if you go, and probably would hate yourself for missing it!

First & foremost is the climate change: Florida is hot & humid. And if you'd only going for 2 short years, I don't see the good of it as a career advancement. And as you say, you'd be the third person "out."
Stay home!

My best friend moved to florida from eau claire wisconsin, and has never once regretted it. Florida is great, so much more fun and better than the midwest, you should try, you can always return to the midwest if it isn't for you. You can fly back to see your family when you're lonely. Welcome to Florida!!!
