My husband asks me that all the time, why does he have to do the calling for take out orders all the time. Well, when it comes to Chinese and Japanese, I just don't understand the people at the other end, so that covers most of our take out. And, well, I just don't like doing it. I don't have a reasonable reason to why I hate doing it, but I just hate it. I can never get the orders right. I seem to get totally tongue tied when I get on the phone to place an order. Now, if it's ordering clothing, I'm fine, so this makes no sense to me, but I have a phone-a-phobia for calling restaurants. I'm even bad at calling for making reservations. I don't know why. Now that you have brought this to my attention I guess I better ask my shrink about this. Thanks, I never realized I had such a problem. Who knew. I appeciate your question, it really made me think. I should be able to do this. So,I don't really know why we don't do it, we should be able to we are certainly bright enough. Good question.

I'm not sure where you're from but I have no prob calling out takeout food.
In fact, it's my boyfriend who is anti social about talking on the phone, so it's either I make the call or starve :)

I wouldn't trust my husband to get the order right. I make the call so I can have them read it back to me to make sure they wrote down what I said.

Men don't care if the order is right, as long as THEIR order is right! My husband never used to check the order before leaving the restaurant, so twice I ordered something wrong on his (pickles on his sandwich, beans on his mexican platter) and told him the restaurant made a mistake. I also told him that since he never checked MY orders, I stopped checking HIS orders when I went out to pick them up.

Now he checks everything before leaving the restaurant. It's all in the training, my dear!

========================

Many people don't tip for takeout, but we tip pretty well. Since we do, they usually remember us and make sure the order is right, but you have to check it the first few times until they get to know you and remember how well you tip. It's good to check anyway, though, because if they're very busy and someone new is working there, mistakes can happen.

It's not about calling for me and most women that I know. We just like to go out instead of ordering in.

Never heard this one before! In fact all guys I know have me call because they "don't like talking on the phone". Seriously. I wonder why the majority of guys have the phobia!

I personally think it is the other way around. My husband will never call for take out. He always asks me to do it, even if I am not getting any.

Not true....I ALWAYS make the call. At home, and at work...they guys never want to call, they just hand me a list.

I can't lie. I am one of them. I always make my husband call. I don't know why I don't like it.
