Yes. Congress could stop this idiocy in a couple more ways. Drop the federal tax and step in to the States business by requiring them to stop their taxing. This would drop the total price in my state by 28 cents a gallon. The second thing is reduce restrictions on stateside exploration. If we don't get a handle on this soon, I see an oil based recession looming on the horizon.
Someone on this page needs to stop picking so much. His brains are falling out.

As a wife of an oilfield worker in oil rich Alberta. I'm telling you you are right. Thanks to new regulations and government cutbacks(due to stricter "green"policies) this will be a bad oil year in fact they are calling for a return of the 80's what does that mean? Well A buy a bike and find an alternative way to heat your house. If you work in a restaurant or other service industry get ready to have your hours cut big time because oilfield families won't be able to buy the extras like we were it will trickle down very fast. I am all for helping the Earth but, unfortunately there are not enough plausible solutions for the quick change that ECO NUTS want. I wish tomorrow we could all use clean products but, that costs money and takes time for research and development to get a completely reliable system. As for the bit about congress saying use any formula they could say don't make certain formula's then people could only chose greener options.

because the president now matches the ideology of those who record about higher gas prices I heard on a radio application that in a million month in 2008 on the large 3 community information shows there have been 32 comments about extreme gas prices

Gee, I would have thought the falling value of the dollar had something to do with it. Down 30 % because of the deficit because of tax cuts for billionaires and we do have to pay for the war, after all. And supply and demand. As we already mentioned, there is a war going on. If there weren't, the futures price would not be so high, but the war makes the futures market bid the price up in anticipation of potential shortages. Thats not too hard to figure out, is it? Maybe if the US hadn't started the Iraq War the futures market wouldn't have bid prices up so high. Maybe that is too hard for you to understand. Try.

No one wants new refineries, least of all oil companies.
Liberals for environmental reasons, Republicans for war platforms, and oil companies ( I think someone stated this) for increasing the supply. Remember price is directly related to supply and demand--basic economics.

They certainly have certainly screwed us with their outlandish views regarding the enrgy industry.
When was the last nuclear power plant built in the U.S?
When was the last conventional power plant built in the U.S.?
We are sealing our fate by listening to these fools.
Down with America, save the habitat (from losing a few acres). Let's see how long it takes for us to drill in the Alaskan wildlife refuge.

Ethanol is very costly and pollutive to produce, is a third less efficient than petro, would carry a heavy tax burden due to all the government farm subsidies, and will jack up the prices of nearly the entire food industry from restaurants to grocery stores!

Or perhaps if they dont stand in the way of nuclear power, new oil drilling, or new refineries, utilize new technologies, we can boost production and get us ont he road to oil indepedence.

I would say that this is a part of the problem. The other part is the fact that oil companies have no reason to make the system more efficient and productive. They are making billions in profit per quarter right now. Why build more refineries and increase supply?

no its the fault of the U.S. citizens because if everyone in the U.S. didn't buy gas for one day that would cost the oil companies 300 million dollars , just for one day ! you think they would lower the prices then ? I think so
